I'm currently embarking on what I hope will be the major research project of the next three years of my life. I'm studying standards and the way people flout them. Explaining my work to someone, I was asked whether or not there was some kind of clearinghouse for my progress. I admitted, at the time, that there wasn't, that the only available posts about it were on my personal blog, mixed in with other writing.
This blog is an attempt to correct my omission. This blog is about the relationship between individuals and standards. With a great deal of optimism, I hope to use it to document my progress towards a better understanding of the way people use and mis-use both formal and informal standards. We'll see how it goes.
